About us

A teacher, an app builder and a dog who gets to know your child

We're two Danes from North Jutland. Alexander is a qualified teacher and has spent more than ten years on how children and young people learn. Christian built his first iPhone apps in 2008 and has been building software ever since. Together we built Jabba, an AI tutor that adapts teaching to each child.

Why us

Jabba has to get two things right at once

Alexander covers how children learn. Christian covers how to build the product. Jabba sits where the two overlap.ALEXANDERHow childrenlearncurriculaneuro-educationSEN teachingCHRISTIANHow tobuild itapps since 2008AI in productionuser researchJabba

Two children in the same class rarely need the same task. With AI, Jabba can see where your child is right now and give them the task and the explanation that fit.

Learning apps are usually built either by educators or by technologists. Jabba needs both. Alexander makes sure what Jabba teaches holds together and suits the child's age. Christian builds the AI that adapts the tasks, and makes sure a nine-year-old can use it on an iPad on a Tuesday morning.

We both know children and young people who don't fit a single template. Alexander teaches young people with special educational needs, and Christian trained as an occupational therapist. That's why Jabba is built to follow the child from the very first task.

The founders

Co-founder ยท Pedagogy and curriculum

Alexander Kirkegaard

Qualified teacher, MSc in IT, and diploma in neuropsychology and neuro-education

Alexander is Jabba's expert in curriculum systems and the theory of how we come to know things. His field is making educational theory work inside digital tools.

For more than ten years he has advised primary schools, vocational colleges and upper-secondary schools on using interactive media in teaching. Alongside Jabba he teaches at the Center for Kommunikation og Undervisning in Himmerland, Denmark, where he also develops a tailored upper-secondary programme for young people with special educational needs (STU). So he is still in a classroom every week.

Since then he has worked in user research and UX, led products at NORDJYSKE and Trackunit, and today he is Chief Product & Technology Officer at MapsPeople. There he leads more than 60 engineers, designers and ML specialists, and he has put AI into production, both in the product and in how the team works.

Meet Jabba

Jabba is an AI tutor who gets to know your child. He notices what comes easily and what's tricky. If a task is too hard, he makes it easier. If it's too easy, he turns it up. He remembers what you've worked on and brings it back before it's forgotten.

How Jabba uses AI

Teaching that follows your child

Jabba keeps track of everything your child does and uses it to choose the next step. He works from England's National Curriculum, so it all points towards what your child needs to know.

  • Finds the right level

If a task is too hard, your child gets an easier version. If it goes well, the next one is harder.

  • Plans the day

The day plan is built around your child's pace and goals, and adjusts as the day goes on.

  • Remembers and revisits

What your child has learned comes back at sensible intervals, so it sticks.

  • Explains a new way

When your child is stuck, Jabba explains again with a different example or a drawing. He doesn't hand over the answer.
